Essentuky is one of the most popular drinking and balneologycal resorts in Russia. There are more than 20 mineral springs in Essentuky. The town is situated in 43 km from Min-Vody airport and in 17 km from Pyatigorsk town. Essentuky is located in the valley of the Podkumok river in the steppe area. Its height is 640m above sea level. The resort is situated in the north part of the tow. On the South and on the North resort is surrounded by large parks. They are: the Upper and the Lower parks. There are many shady alleys, flower gardens, fountains, decorative arbous in the park. The architecture of Essentuky is beautiful. The best period of a year is time from May till October, when the weather is warm and dry. There are mineral springs with unique curative qualities such as Essentuky4, Essentuky17, Essentuky Novaya and many others in Essentuky. The history of resort is closely connected with the history of the testing of mineral springs of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. For the first time mineral waters of Essentuky were described in 1811 by doctor F.P.Daaz, who had found and tested three springs with sour-salty water in the valley of the Kislusha stream in 1809-1810.But the Essentuky resort developed later than other resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. The resort was found in 1839 when the first building for baths were built . Essentuky acquired reputation one of of the best resort for treatment digestive system. The mineral waters of famous springs ¹4 and ¹17 hadn’t been used not used till 1840. In 1874 and 1882 mining engineers Fransua and Dry explored mineral springs of Essentuky.
